Recently on May 15, 2016, Code & Dev had the pleasure of assisting the Lani Kai Beach Resort hold a Luau themed fundraiser and silent auction to benefit the Fourth of July annual fireworks show at Fort Myers Beach. The Lani Kai partnered with several other local businesses to help raise the $50,000 necessary for the firework show. The party featured an abundance of live music, hula lessons, drink specials and beach games.
Joining some of the local business at Fort Myers Beach were The Florida Everblades and Florida Tarpon Reel Girls to teach guests traditional island dance styles. Every half hour, the Tarpon Reel girls held 50/50 raffles while also taking pictures with some of the thousands of guests.
One of the best parts about the event was that there was no entry fee to enter the Lani Kai, as the resort owners wanted to ensure that everyone was able to access the beach. Those who participated in the silent auction received a free glass of champagne and hors d’oeuvre while bidders observed the various items available for auction. Some of the auction items included boat rentals, resort accommodations, barrels of alcohol and a set of Fireball Whisky guitars.
Besides the event, a Go Fund Me account was implemented online and raised over $23,000 alone. In total, the businesses were able to raise well over its $50,000 goal. That being said, you might be wondering what preliminary planning enabled the event’s success. In short, the answer is event planning and online marketing.
With the Internet literally at our fingertips, it is important to utilize some of the tools that are easily accessible and available. For example, Facebook allows pages to create events in which people can RSVP and stay up-to-date with all of the event details being shoveled out by the company’s marketing team.
Furthermore, it is important for the organization hosting the event to begin planning the event as far in advance as possible. This includes setting a location, date, time, event details, entertainment, incentives and media contacts. When outlining activities and details for the event, you’ll want to be sure to develop a landing page on the organization’s website for the that will serve as a destination for even more event information. This will help ensure that people are able to fully understand all of the event details, as well as offer a place to make donations if they are unable to attend on the day of the event. This is where the Go Fund Me page came into action. This Go Fund Me account made it extremely easy to spread the word about the event via Facebook and Twitter as well as raise thousands of donations prior to the actual event.
